LBW @ IT for Rail

On June 26th and 27th, 2017, the international management conference IT for Rail
took place in the premises of DB Regio at Potsdamer Platz. About 30 top managers
of several European railways debated the challenges and opportunities of
digitization for the railway industry. Prof. Dr. Ralf Borndörfer (in the picture
on the left outside) showed in his presentation “Railway Optimization 4.0 A Tour to
Re-Optimization” some of the latest LBW developments. Adaptation optimization and fully-dated planning are
optimization approaches that address the actual day of operation. All
planning tools are now parallelized, which leads to a running time acceleration by a factor of up to 4 for large and complex scenarios. “With the
powerful LBW optimization modules
considerable efficiency gains can be achieved. Rail transport with its complex restrictions has a particularly large potential.”, says Borndörfer.
