Railway Optimization advances to Edelman Award Finals

Team Deutsche Bahn has advanced to the finals of the 2020 INFORMS Franz Edelman Award Competition, the most prestigious international Operations Research  Competition. The final winner will be chosen from the six finalists Amazon, Carnival, Deutsche Bahn, IBM, Intel, and Walmart at the INFORMS Conference on Business Analytics and Operations Research in Denver, CO on April 26-28.

Deutsche Bahn’s contribution is about the planning system FEO (FahrzeugEinsatzOptimierung). FEO contains LBW’s train rotation optimizer RotOR, which has been developed at Zuse Institute Berlin in a series of projects with Deutsche Bahn, at Matheon, and in the MODAL RailLab. RotOR is used within FEO by the long distance division of Deutsche Bahn to optimize its fleet of ICE high speed trains.
