Mathematical Optimization Systems in Public Transit

Operational planning of transport companies is usually organized in a series of sequential planning steps. Line planning is followed by timetabling, vehicle scheduling, crew scheduling, crew rostering, and vehicle and crew assignment. All these planning tasks are combinatorial optimization problems.

LBW develops mathematical high-performance optimization cores for planning systems in public transit, rail transport, and the airline industry.
Our optimization modules are integrated into the planning systems ivu.plan and ivu.rail.plan of IVU Traffic Technologies AG, providing optimization functionality.
Our optimization module CS-OPT forms the basis of the xOPT optimization suite of the NetLine system of Lufthansa-Systems GmbH & Co KG .

LBW is a longtime industrial partner of ZIB in the development of new
mathematical methods of traffic optimization. Currently, research
projects are being carried out on the optimization of the railway
system, on the duty rostering, and on the optimization of cyclic weekly
rosters. LBW’s railway research is focussed in the RailLab of the
Research Campus MODAL at ZIB.

LBW is a daughter company of IVU Traffic
Technologies AG, which grants IVU exclusive sales rights on LBW’s
optimizers DS-OPT, VS-OPT, and IS-OPT in the public transport market.
LBW’s airline crew optimizer CS-OPT forms the basis of the xOPT
optimization suite of the NetLine system of Lufthansa Systems GmbH & Co KG.
